ABOUT

In 2006 Matthew Cox decided to pursue his passion for retail and open his first store, Here Homewares, an eclectic mix of furniture, art, homewares and fashion.  This business successfully traded in various regions of South East QLD until 2011, when Matthew decided to alter its concept and introduce a hospitality component to the business.  At this time Matthew changed the business trading name to Matthew Thomas.  Matthew is derived from the owner's Christian name, and Thomas is the Christian name of his late father, brother, and son.

Matthew developed his passion for retail from his childhood experiences shopping at the markets and local stores with his father.  Matthew has been fortunate enough to live, work and travel in various parts of the world and has enjoyed observing and monitoring the methods that local stall holders and retailers employ to sell their wares.  Prior to owning stores, Matthew gained invaluable field retail work experience, and held merchandising and territory management positions at Coca Cola Amatil and Cadbury Schweppes. Matthew also holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.

The concept of Matthew Thomas is made truly unique by its product and service diversity. Below is a brief summary of each outlet:

Matthew Thomas Aspley

Our Aspley store is stocked full of exciting products including kitchenware, homewares, Murano jewellery, canvas art, paintings, furniture, glassware, stationary and personal care items from some of the world's most prestigious brands.  Matthew also designs a range of homewares products made specifically for the local market. Our friendly staff will happily complimentary gift-wrap any item. Matthew Thomas Aspley also has a coffee shop with custom made European furniture that seats 70 people.  The coffee shop provides gourmet desserts, savouries and cold specialty beverages, and serves Wedgwood tea and Toby's Estate coffee.  If this isn't enough, Matthew Thomas Aspley makes and sells its very own fudge.

The store is an institution in the area and renown for its relaxing environment, making people feel welcome and providing service of yesteryear.  There is no other store quite like Matthew Thomas Aspley.

Matthew Thomas Sandgate

Matthew was fishing at Sandgate one day with his son Thomas and noticed the beautiful Masonic Hall for lease. Mystified as to how such a splendid building was on the market to rent, Matthew jotted the number down and made contact with its humble owner, where a quick negotiation took place.

Matthew then had to decide what to do with such a historical and classic building in a wonderful bayside location. Matthew decided to offer a wonderful breakfast and lunch menu delivered by two chefs.  Matthew Thomas Sandgate serves Wedgwood Tea and Toby's Estate coffee, and offers all kinds of other house made refreshments including desserts.  This venue also has a unique range of homewares, art and jewellery and personal care items for purchase.  And yes, Matthew Thomas Sandgate makes and sells its very own fudge.  Matthew Thomas Sandgate also hosts exceptional High Teas and private functions outside of business hours.

At Matthew Thomas we believe in treating others as we would want to be treated and appreciate the business and support of every person that walks through our doors. We acknowledge that without our customers we cannot exist, and we look forward to the opportunity of serving you at one of our stores.
